WHERE IS MY REFUND

When Will I Get My Refund?

Once the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund, they will provide a personalized refund date. Most refunds are issued within 21 days of the IRS receiving your return. However, some returns may take longer if the IRS needs additional review.

When Should I Contact the IRS?

Please contact the IRS only if one of the following applies:

It has been 21 days or more since you electronically filed your return

It has been more than 6 weeks since you mailed a paper return

The Where’s My Refund? tool tells you to contact the IRS directly

Calling before these timeframes will not speed up your refund.

How to Check Your Refund Status

You can check your refund status using the IRS Where’s My Refund? tool:

Within 24 hours after your electronic return is accepted

Four weeks after mailing a paper return

We recommend checking the tool first before calling the IRS, as it provides the most up-to-date information on your refund.
